GUIDELINE FOR HOLDING ACBI ANNUAL CONFERENCE

1.      Introduction:

A constitutional objective of the Association of Clinical Biochemists (ACBI) is to sponsor and support regular annual conference of ACBI at national level. The purpose is to provide a national level forum for the free and open exchange of information on the science and technology of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine in the academic, clinical or industrial setting and for clinical biochemists and physicians to interact with their peers with the broad objective of promoting human health. The following are the guidelines approved by ACBI EC to facilitate the smooth and successful organization of this annual event.

 2.      Call and submission of Proposals to organize the conference:

The General Secretary through the first issue of the bulletin in the year shall invite proposals from members who are qualified as per the criteria given below for hosting next annual conference. The proposal in the prescribed format (Annexure –2) along with a supporting letter from the Head of the Institute and other supportive documents should be submitted before the last date given in the bulletin. The proposer shall give an undertaking to conform to and abide by all the provisions of these guidelines for holding conference.

 3.      Who can propose for the conference?

The proposer should be a Life member of ACBI of at least 10 years standing as member and must be a senior member of the profession being held in high regard. He/ she should have been regularly attending ACBI conferences and contributing significantly to the academic activities. He / She should have shown leadership qualities as evidenced by active participation in activities of ACBI either at state or at national level, organizations of scientific meetings and influenced at least 10 biochemists for enrollment as member of ACBI.

4.      Selection of the hosting institute & venue

The Secretary shall forward all proposals received within the specified period to a three member ‘Conference Committee’, consisting of a senior member of ACBI as Chairperson, President of ACBI and Chairman of the ACBI – Corporate wing. The conference committee will evaluate the proposals and rate them using rating scale with respect to the details provided, facilities available, preliminary scientific programme and other aspects specified in the application.  This review and scoring will be presented in the Executive Council. The proposer if needed shall be invited by the Secretary to attend the EC meeting to give presentation about the facilities available for holding conference. Then the EC members shall take final decision unanimously or by majority vote for the venue and the organizing secretary for that conference.  The Secretary shall inform the members in the GB meeting the details of the selected venue and the institute holding to host the next conference and the Organizing Secretary will extend a formal invitation to all the members.

5.         Conference Organizing Committee

The Organizing Secretary shall form a Conference Organizing Committee for managing the conference.  It will consist of the following committees-

      [1] National Conference Committee consisting of (i) President / Secretary / Advisor   or his/her nominee and (ii) Chair-man of ACBI-Corporate Wing and (3)  

           Representative of Corporate members or his/her nominee.  One or two members of the committee shall visit the place of conference from time to time on invitation     

           from the Organizing Secretary, to take stock of the preparation for the conference and give appropriate advice.

      

       [2] National & Local Scientific Committees:

     National Scientific Committee will consist of President, Secretary and Editor-in-chief of IJCB (Chairperson of the committee). Local Scientific Committee shall prepare scientific programme in consultation with the National Scientific committee through its chairperson.

Local Organizing Committee shall manage and look after the following activities: -   

                      Management of scientific activity which will include paper presentation (oral & Posters), seminar, symposia, workshops, guest lectures and demonstrations,

[3] Accommodation committee,

[4] Transport and travels committee,  

[5] Food committee,  

[6] Cultural and social programme committee,  

[7] Finance committee

[8] Committee for Volunteers

[9] Committee for Programme for Associate delegates (spouse & family)

[10] Venue committee for looking after Inaugural function ,arrangement for holding GB meeting and Executive Council meetings ( one before GB meeting and another after GB meeting), Arrangement for meetings of various committees such as Education, Journal, and Quality Assurance etc should also be made. The venues for each meeting should be mentioned in the conference programme.

 

6.      Scientific  Activities

A.      Scientific activities include arranging for:

a)      Plenary lectures including Orations such as [a] Awadhesh Saran Memorial Oration, [b] K. L. Gupta Memorial Oration, [c] K. E. M.  Hospital & Seth G. S. Medical College Oration,  [d] Dr. N. Pattabiraman Oration,  [e] Mrs. & Dr. G. P. Talwar Oration and   [f] Any other orations approved by the GB and other Invited lectures.

b)     Oral Presentation of Award Papers such as [a] Pitabus Jamuna Burma Memorial Award Papers, [b] Sita Devi Award Papers, [c] P.S. Murthy Award Papers, [d] NIMS (Hyderabad) Best Poster Award Papers,  [e] MGIMS (Sewagram) Best Paper Award For Tropical Diseases and [f] Other awards as decided by G.B.

c)      AFMC QUIZ AWARD

 

B.     Presentation Of Oral And Poster Papers

 

C.     Holding Of Seminars, Symposia And Workshops Including Industrial Workshops  On Various Important Aspects,

 

D.     Pre/Post Conference Continuing Education Programme/ Workshop/ Hands On Training.

 

7.      Oration Awards

The General Secretary, through the News Bulletin to be published just after the annual conference, shall call for nominations for different Oration awards of the Association, that include (1) Awadhesh Saran Memorial Oration Award, (2) K. L. Gupta Memorial Oration Award, (3) Seth G. S. Medical College Oration Award (4) Dr. T. N. Pattabiraman Oration Award (5) Mrs. & Dr. G. P. Talwar Oration Award and any other award coming in this category.

The nominations along with some information about suitability of the nominee should be sent to the Secretary, who in turn shall forward them to members of Award Committee, constituted for the purpose. There shall be one award committee for all the awards. The committee shall be constituted by the Executive Committee or the President with the consent of the General Secretary . The Award committee shall select at least 2 names in each award in order of preference and communicate the decision to Organising Secretary. The award committee, if it finds no suitable nominee in any award, shall suggest a suitable speaker. The Organizing Secretary, will then invite the first person of each award. In case, the nominee shows inability, the second person of the list will be invited. All these procedures should be completed at least 3 months in advance of the conference.

8.      Call for Papers :

            A first flier informing the members about the venue of the conference as well as the main topics or themes and attractive features of the place of conference must be sent to members at least 6 months in advance. This information can be additionally circulated through first News Bulletin and Notice on ACBI Website. At this time, members shall be requested to send names and topics to participate in symposia.

 In the second information brochure containing invitation should go from Organizing Secretary to members at least 3 months in advance of the date of commencement of the conference to attend the conference and send abstract of papers for various Awards (such as Sita Devi Award, etc in detail), for Symposia and for other  oral or poster presentation during the conference,. The abstract must reach the conference secretariat at least 2 months in advance along with registration fee of the conference. Any person who is not a member can also present paper provided he / she becomes sessional member for the conference by paying Rs. 250/ and also pays registration fee. The sessional membership fee can be collected either by Joint Secretary (Head Office) or by Organizing Secretary. The sessional fee collected by Organizing Secretary shall be later remitted to Head Office. 

The abstract should preferably be submitted on CD or by e-mail attachment or by 3 hard copies in the way suggested by the Organizing committee (which should be on the line of IJCB)  Members should be advised to prepare slides or power point presentation which is clearly visible from a distance of at least 15 meters. Bad slides will not be accepted during preview of slides. The slides must be given to the projectionist at least 30 minutes before the start of the session.  

The author presenting the paper should be a member or sessional member of the Association and must mention membership number on the registration form and send registration fee along with the paper. If the member later desires not to attend the conference, the paper will be deemed to be withdrawn and will not appear in the Abstract book.  Authors should be informed about the duration, date and time of the presentation at least 10 days in advance, preferably putting the program on website.

                        The abstract of papers shall be reviewed by the scientific committee and if found suitable, shall be accepted. The letter of acceptance of the paper should be sent to the authors as soon as possible in order to enable him/her to obtain permission and assistance to attend the conference from their institutions and should not wait for receipt of registration fee or finalization of programme.

   

9.      Arrangement for Scientific Sessions:

      Required number of Halls of adequate size (usually 3) and facility, having screen and proper lighting arrangement for switching on & off all the lights of the room, should be available for parallel sessions. A slide projector, LCD projector and an overhead projector with spare bulbs should be made available to each hall. One set of projectors should be kept reserved for failure of these equipments in any hall. There should be a trained projectionist well versed in using those projectors available for each hall. In addition there should be proper lectern, collar mike and light pointer.

     One responsible persons for each scientific session ( co-coordinator) with a volunteer should be deputed for each session whose work will be to see that the Chairpersons are informed in time, every facility is available, and session starts in time and keep memento / certificate ready for being presented to the chairpersons and speakers.

 

10. Financial Resources and Liabilities:

            To start with, the Organizing Secretary can get a refundable advance of up to Rs. 30,000/- from the Association secretariat on request.

 

The following are other sources of income:

A.      Delegate registration fee. It should be kept as low as possible.      

B.     Advertising charges for the souvenir.

C.     Charges of exhibition stall bookings.

D.     Sponsorships for symposia, workshops or for invited speakers

E.     Assistance from own institution / University / Government.

F.      Donations from local colleagues - as reception committee membership fee.

G.    Assistance from extra mural funding agencies, for example  --

a)      INSA, ICMR, UGC for sponsoring scientific programme

b)     NAMS for pre-conference workshop under continuing medical education.  

c)      This activity should not be projected as conference activity to NAMS .

d)     DST, DBT & CSIR for workshop, symposia, etc.

 Note:

The rate for advertisements, exhibition stalls and sponsorship charges for symposia / workshop should be kept at a realistic rate in consultation with the members of National Advisory Committee consisting of (i) Advisor or his nominee and (ii) Chairman of ACBI-Corporate Wing and (3) Representative of Corporate members or his/her        nominee. and few past Presidents in order to attract more industrial participation.

a)      The management of fund should be efficiently done, so that a handsome amount of money is saved for the parent organization. The Organizing Secretary has to give 10% of stall bookings to ACBI-Corporate Wing and after that to give 50% of the remaining savings from conference to the central fund of the Association. 50% of the savings will remain with Organizing Secretary to be spent on Institutional improvement or local activities in consultation with the organizing committee.

b)      Losses incurred by the Organizing committee are not made good by the Association Secretariat.

c)      The Account of the conference should be audited and full report along with full statement of income and expenditure shall be presented to the General Secretary for being placed in next Executive Council meeting.

 

11.  Registration  of  Delegates :

(1)  As per G.B. resolution dated 29.12.1983, the last date of registration on payment of normal fee should be 8 weeks prior to the onset of the conference. Any one registering after this date shall be liable to pay a late fee of an amount to be decided by the Organizing secretary.

             After having registered as delegate, if any member informs the organizing secretary about his or her inability to attend the conference at least 4 weeks in advance of the start of the conference, he or she shall be entitled for refund of 75% of the registration fee. But when request reaches 2 weeks in advance, only 50% and  no refund, if the member informs within 14 days of the start of the conference or does not turn up. However, the accommodation and return journey ticket charges shall be refunded after necessary deductions.

 (2). Registration Fee: -

         The registration fee should be kept as low as possible. The President and Secretary are not asked for registration fee and Accommodation charges. Office bearers should also be exempted from paying registration fee. Accommodation should be arranged for the President and the Secretary at the venue or nearest point to the venue to facilitate the secretariat work at the conference. 5 free registrations and 5 half registrations should be given to post graduate students on first come-first serve basis or as regional service award.. If the Organizing Committee is hard pressed for fund then this should be disbursed by ACBI. This should be publicized through News Bulletin and Conference circulars.

 (3) The Organizing secretary shall invite through conference brochure, applications for Travel grant for attending the conference. Only members whose age is below 35 years are eligible for the grant. The applicant has to give undertaking that he / she has not received any assistance from any other source including his or her institution. The grant is limited to return 3 tier (non-AC) rail fare but not exceeding Rs. 1000.

 4)  President and other Executives are given rail fare if funds permit.

 

 

12.    Executive Committee Meeting:

                              The meeting is held on the day prior to the conference. The meeting is of 2 -3 hours duration and is held in the afternoon. Suitable time slot and place of meeting should be indicated in the programme. In order to attend these meetings, some members have to come one day in advance. It would be ideal if one night accommodation payment is made by the Organising committee for those members who have to come one day in advance to attend the meeting.

                             For the meeting, a hall with a capacity of 50 persons is kept ready for the scheduled period. Arrangement for a steno typist should also be made. Also there should be arrangement of a cassette recorder to record the proceedings. Arrangement for snacks and tea or cold drink and water is highly appreciated. Another meeting of the Executive committee is held on the day following the General Body Meeting. Arrangement for that meeting should also be made and time provided in the programme.

   

13. General Body Meeting 

              The General Body meeting is generally held on the second day of the conference between 4 to 6 pm. and for which the Secretary notifies to all the members. The Organising Secretary includes this programme while drafting the programme of the conference. He also arranges a steno typist and a cassette recorder to record the proceedings.

 

14. Collection of Association Subscription and Dues:

          There are many delegates who desire to renew their subscription or apply for membership during the conference. Hence, the Organising Secretary will keep a counter at the reception desk manned by a volunteer for this purpose. The treasurer and /or the Secretary or Joint Secretary of the Association or their representative will assist the volunteer.

       If the Organising Secretary has received association subscription or sessional membership fee ( equal to prescribed fee for ordinary membership ) along with delegate fee, he should pay to the Association Treasurer / Secretary that amount during the conference so that proper receipt is issued to the members.

      Any delegate whose name does not appear in the current Directory of Members or does not show receipt of up-to-date payment should be charged membership fee along with the application for membership or sessional membership.

 

 15.  Inaugural Function:

      On the dais, besides arrangement for special guests, Organising Secretary and Chairman of the reception committee, there should be sitting arrangement for the President, Vice-President and Secretary of the Association. At this function, besides welcome and inauguration, General Secretary will give a talk about activities of the association, then Presidential speech, followed by installation of the new President, presentation of awards & medals and address by chief guest or any other guest. The inaugural function should not last for more than 90 minutes

   

16.  Arrangement For Food And Tea:

(1)  Breakfast to delegates is arranged at the venue.

(2)  Lunch also  arranged at the venue.

 (3)    Tea/Coffee break be arranged nearer to exhibition area and/or Poster session area to increase  visit to exhibition and poster lobby.

(4)    A welcome dinner is given to Corporate members and Executive Committee members after the first Executive Committee meeting.

(5)    Banquet is arranged on first or second night of the conference.

(6)    It must be stressed that the food served, as far as possible, should be of all taste so that it is acceptable to people from all parts of the country.                                                                

       There should not be too much stress on local menu. 

            It is needless to stress that proper hygiene is taken care in preparation and  dispensation of food articles. There should be arrangement of good quality   

            drinking water and  disposable glasses at suitable places.     

 

17.  Cultural Programme:  

                                         It is usually arranged on 1st or  second night of the conference.

 

 18. Souvenir Of The Conference:

                This should be published. Besides containing articles about the local place and information about the conference, it should contain President's address, Secretary and Treasurer's report. Souvenir should be a source of income for the conference by taking advertisements. Abstract of papers being presented should go in to it.

            A separate Handbook for Delegates should be published showing map of venue and location of rooms for meetings, food, Preview room etc. Map of the city showing railway stations, airports, bus stand, hotel locations, market places and sites of importance for visit should be included

   

19.  PROGRAMME FOR DELEGATES AND THEIR SPOUSE:

[1] One half day during conference period should be utilized by taking the delegates to some nearby important places, or to some important centres of arts & crafts or to some 

               renowned institution worth seeing or to some industries, etc. THIS IS ALSO A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF ANY CONFERENCE

 [2] There should be a separate and simultaneous programme for co-delegates, spouses and children of delegates, like visiting places of importance or visiting important shopping centers. If such programme is not arranged, there should be no registration fee for the spouse and Food to them should be optional on the basis of food coupons, which may be purchased one day in advance. One person from the Organising committee should be made responsible for the programme for the Associate Delegates.

 

 20.    Conference Account :

                   The Income - Expenditure Account of the conference, duly audited by Chartered accountant and approved by the Organising committee must be submitted to the  Secretary and the Head Office for record, within 6 months after the end of the conference. This report is also frequently asked for by the funding agencies.

 

21. Conference Programme

                        Programme of the conference is prepared in consultation with National Conference committee members consisting of President, Secretary, Advisor and any member nominated on this committee.

  

22. CERTIFICATES AND MEDALS

               The certificates and medals for Oration awards and Fellowship award are made ready by the Head Office. The rest certificates and medals are prepared by the Organizing Secretary.

 

 

 

Annexure- I

ACBI Oration Awards

 

 

[1] AWADHESH SARAN MEMORIAL ORATION AWARD

                        This is an important activity. This oration was started ACBI in 1978 to commemorate the Founder President, Dr. Awadhesh Saran, who died prematurely in 1976. An eminent scientist is invited to deliver a lecture on a subject of interest to the clinical biochemists. The speaker may or may not be a biochemist, may or may not be member of ACBI and may or may not be Indian national.

The organizing Secretary shall provide free registration and Hospitality to the speaker. A sum of Rs.4000=00 or less depending upon bank interest rates is available annually from Awadhesh Saran Memorial Fund kept at the headquarters for this purpose and can be used for giving TA . A suitable memento and a certificate have to be presented to the speaker. The Orator may be requested to provide copy of the oration for future publication

                           An introduction to this oration is kept in a CD with photo of Late. A. Saran at the Head Office from where it should be obtained.

 

 [2] K. L. GUPTA MEMORIAL ORATION AWARD

                         The Oration was started in 1993 by Dr T. Malati and her brothers by donating a sum of Rs. 40,000. The nominee should be an eminent scientist working in the field of Oncology and may or may not be member of ACBI.

The organizing Secretary shall provide free registration and Hospitality to the speaker. A sum of Rs.4000=00 or less depending upon bank interest rates is available annually from K.L. Gupta Memorial Fund kept at the headquarters for this purpose and can be used for giving TA . A suitable memento and a certificate have to be presented to the speaker. The Orator may be requested to provide copy of the oration for future publication

                          An introduction to this oration is kept in a CD with photo of Late. K. L. Gupta at the Head Office from where it should be obtained.

 

[3] K. E. M. HOSPITAL AND SETH G. S.  MEDICAL COLLEGE ORATION

                 This oration was started in 1992 by the then Organising Secretary, Dr. A. V. Potnis, Prof. of Biochemistry of K.E.M. Hospital, Bombay by donating a sum of Rs. 15,000=00 from savings of the conference. Dr. Sucheta Dandekar, Professor of Biochemistry, Seth G.S. Medical College , Mumbai has further added Rs. 15,000/ from the savings of a Workshop on Quality Management held in December 2005 at Seth G.S. Medical College , Mumbai.

 The nominee should be an eminent Biochemist/Pathologist/Clinician/Scientist to give a lecture on topic related to Clinical Biochemistry.

         The organizing Secretary shall provide free registration and Hospitality to the speaker. A sum of Rs.3000=00 or less or more depending upon bank interest rates is available annually from Seth G. S. Medical College Oration  Fund kept at the headquarters for this purpose can be used for giving TA . A suitable memento and a certificate have to be presented to the speaker. The Orator may be requested to provide copy of the oration for future publication.

         Introductory words for the oration is kept in a CD at Head Office and can be used to introduce the Oration.

 

[4] Dr. T. N. Pattabhiraman Oration

           This oration was created in year 2004 in the name Dr. T. N. Pattabhiraman, Ex-Professor of Biochemistry, Kasturba Medical College , Manipal and Past President of ACBI, by donation of Rs. One lac and one thousand by his admiring students.. The oration will take place annually during ACBI National Conference.

     The Award nominee should be an eminent Biochemist/Pathologist/Clinician/Scientist to give a lecture on topic related to Clinical Biochemistry.

        The organizing Secretary shall provide free registration and Hospitality to the speaker. A sum of Rs.10,000=00 or less depending upon bank interest rates is available annually from Dr. T. N. Pattabhiraman Oration Fund kept at the headquarters for this purpose and can be used for giving TA . A suitable memento and a certificate have to be presented to the speaker. The Orator may be requested to provide copy of the oration for future publication.

          Introductory words for the oration is kept in a CD at Head Office and can be used to introduce the Oration.

 

[5] Mrs. & Dr. G. P. Talwar Oration

        This Oration was created in 2005 by a donation by Dr. G. P. Talwar Foundation of Rs. one lac deposited in two installments. Dr. G. P. Talwar is a renowned Biochemist who was Head of Biochemistry in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and later, Director of Indian Institute of Immunology, New Delhi . He was President of ACBI in the year 1982.

      The Award nominee should be an eminent Biochemist/ Immunologist/ Pathologist/ Clinician/ Scientist to give a lecture on topic related to his research done in India in the last 5 years.

      The organizing Secretary shall provide free registration and Hospitality to the speaker. A sum of Rs.10,000=00 or less depending upon bank interest rates is available annually from Mrs. & Dr. G. P. Talwar Oration Fund kept at the headquarters for this purpose and can be used for giving TA . A suitable memento and a certificate have to be presented to the speaker. The Orator may be requested to provide copy of the oration for future publication

ORAL PRESENTATION OF AWARD PAPERS

 

        The Organizing Secretary shall invite papers for the below mentioned Awards from members of the Association through the final brochure and the papers should reach by the date fixed for receiving papers for the conference. These papers shall be evaluated by Scientific Committee of the conference consisting of Organizing Secretary/or a person nominated by him, Vice President and President. On the basis of evaluation done by members of the scientific committee, the organizing secretary shall select 2 best papers of each award and inform their authors to present them at a special session for award papers before 3 judges selected from amongst senior delegates by the President for this purpose. Each presentation shall not be of more than 10 minutes duration. After presentation of each paper, 5 minutes shall be devoted on discussion by the judges and the audience. The best paper author of each Award as decided by the judges shall be given at the valedictory function. The Head Office arranges the medals, certificate and prizes.

   

[1]  PITABUS-JAMUNA BURMA MEMORIAL MEDAL PAPERS

            Dr. D. P. Burma, Professor of Biochemistry, Institute of Medical Sciences. of Banaras Hindu University instituted the award in memory of his father and mother by donating a sum of Rs.5000/ in 1982.

                        Any member including Sessional Member whose age on 31st December of the Year is below 35 years, is eligible to take part in the contest.

           The applicants have to submit a write up (not more than 2000 words) on an original research work in medicine based on approaches in biochemistry or molecular biology, published by any other author/authors excluding himself and his group in any prestigious journal of the world in the preceding one year. Application along with (1) 4 typed/photo copies of the write up, (2) 4 photocopies of the original paper,  (3) documentary evidence of age (4) proof of  membership  of ACBI should be submitted to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

                        The winner of the award shall be given a cash award and a certificate at the Valedictory function of the same conference.

 

 

 [2] SITA DEVI AWARD PAPERS

              This award was created by a donation of Rs.5000/ by the Organising Secretary of 6th. Annual Conference of ACBI, Dr. C. Sita Devi, in 1980 and later again Rs.5000/ from her own side. The cash award and a certificate are given to the person whose paper in oral presentation was considered best and worth. Any member including Sessional Member, whose age on 31st December of the Year is below 35 years, is eligible to take part in the contest.

             The applicant shall submit (1) 4 typed/photo copies of the paper, (2) documentary evidence of age (3) proof of membership of ACBI (4) no objection certificate from co-authors, if any, to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

              The winner of the award shall be given a cash award and a certificate at the Valedictory function of the same conference.

 

[3]   P. S. MURTHY AWARD FOR BEST PAPER IN THE FIELD OF (1) INFECTIOUS DISEASES,           AND

(2) DEVELOPMENT OF DRUGS FROM PLANT SOURCES.

                         These awards were created by a donation of Rs.10,000/ by Prof. P. S. Murthy in 1993. Papers for the award are invited under 2 categories, i.e. (1) Infectious Diseases, and (2) Development of Drugs. One best paper in each category is awarded with certificate and cash Any member including Sessional Member, whose age on 31st December of the Year is below 35 years, is eligible to take part in the contest.

  If no paper under one category is available or considered worth, then both awards shall go to two top papers of the other category. In case no paper in either category is considered worth, then similar papers in Poster Sessions should be considered for the award. The award shall be presented to winners during the Valedictory Function of the conference.

 [4]  MGIMS AWARD FOR BEST PAPER IN THE FIELD OF  TROPICAL  DISEASES

                  This award was created in the year 1994 by a donation of Rs.10, 000/ by Dr. B. C .Harinath, the Organising Secretary of XX ACBI conference, Sevagram,.       

                  The Award is open for original work in biochemical/ immunological/ molecular aspects of Tropical Diseases. The applicant for the award must be a member of the Association including sessional member and must be below 35 years of age on 31st. December of the year. The applicant shall submit (1) 4 typed/photo copies of the paper, (2) documentary evidence of age (3) no objection certificate from co-authors and (4) evidence of membership of ACBI, to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

              . In case no paper is considered worth, then similar papers in Poster Sessions should be considered for the award. The award shall be presented to winners during the Valedictory Function of the conference.

 

 

[5] NIMS AWARD FOR BEST POSTER.

                        The award was instituted in 1994 by a donation of Rs. 10,000/ by the Organising Secretary of XIX Annual Conference of ACBI, Dr. T. Malati, Professor and Head of the Dept. of Biochemistry, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad .

                        There are 2 awards - One award is for the best poster in the field of Cancer and another in Non-Cancer field. There is no application required to win this award. All posters shall be evaluated by a panel of judges drawn from the delegates, who have been selected by the  President in consultation with the Organising secretary. The award shall be presented during the Valedictory function of the conference.

 

 

[6]  POSTER AWARDS FROM ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

         Organizing Committee shall also announce 5 or more awards for excellent posters and the process of selection will be the same by the same judges of the NIMS Award.

         Thus Poster awards fall in following categories:-

                                      (1)   Cancer – 1

                                      (2)   Non-cancer – 1

                                      (3)   In case no award is given for Oral presentation of (a)   P. S. Murthy Award for (i) Infectious diseases   (ii) Development of drugs from plant  '      

                                             sources                                                                  (b)   MGIMS Award for papers on Tropical diseases.

                                      (4) Organizing committee award for visually excellent Posters.

 

[ 7 ]  AFMC QUIZ AWARD

              This award was instituted by the Organizing Secretary of 33rd ACBICON 2006, Pune, Col. Parduman Singh by giving a sum of Rs. 2,00,000  from the savings of the conference. The money shall be deposited in Fixed Deposit by Head Office and out of annual interest accrued, 70% shall be used for giving award and 30% shall be reinvested in fixed deposit to take care of inflation and varying interest rates. There shall be two awards each year based on QUIZ contest held during conference.

                          Col. Singh has further donated a sum of Rs. 5000.0 for preparation of a RUNNING TROPHY which shall be given to one who scores highest marks in the contest. He / she shall return the trophy to the next Organizing Secretary before next annual conference is held.

6.      Is his / her Institution ready to host the conference (letter from Head of the institution to be attached)

7.      What other National / State level or International conferences have been held in past  three years by that Institution? 

         (Attach list of those showing number of delegates who attended)

8.      Proposed venue name and location, its distance from Institution- if it is other than the Institution, distance from Railway Station, Nearest Airport and Highways.

9.      Detail about available halls at the venue for Inauguration, Scientific sessions (three),  Workshop, Rooms for slide preview room, Office room, room for office support such

       as fax, computer, printer, e-mail, telephone, photocopy etc, suitable hall for Executive Council meetings, corporate meeting and sub-committees meetings
